We know the struggle, long queues, expensive bank fees, cash getting lost, no nearby ATMs, and systems that were never designed with our communities in mind. ePocket was created to change that.
With ePocket, you don’t need a bank card, fancy phone, or complicated setup. All you need is a cellphone and a valid number. That’s it. Simple, fast, and affordable.
ePocket helps you handle money the way life really works:
Send money to family and friends instantly
Get cash or top up through trusted local Money Agents
Pay at Spazas and small businesses using Scan2Pay
Buy electricity and pay bills
Save money in different pockets for goals and emergencies
Request money from anyone in South Africa
Whether you’re a parent, a student, a hustler, or a small business owner, ePocket fits into your daily grind.
ePocket is not a “copy-paste” banking app. It was designed from the ground up with townships and rural areas in mind.
Our Money Agent model creates income opportunities for local people while making it easy for users to access cash close to home. Our low fees mean more money stays in your pocket, where it belongs.
We believe financial freedom starts with access, trust, and tools that actually work for real people.
ePocket was founded by Mpho Tlhape, a township-raised entrepreneur who saw the gap firsthand.
The idea for ePocket was born from a simple, real-life moment. Mpho was away in a meeting when he realised he hadn’t left money for his 9-year-old daughter to buy bread. There was no easy, safe way to send her money instantly, without a bank, ATM, or card.
That moment sparked a question:
Why is it so hard for ordinary people to send small amounts of money quickly and affordably?
From that question, ePocket was born.
Mpho envisioned a system that doesn’t rely on banks, cards, or ATMs, just a cellphone and a number. A platform built for people who hustle daily, support families, and keep communities moving.
Together with Karabo Seduma (COO), ePocket was built to serve the people often ignored by traditional financial systems, while creating opportunities for agents, merchants, and entrepreneurs in the process.
To power a future where township and rural communities can move money easily, safely, and affordably—without being left behind.
